My Story

Emma Wood MBACP/MNCPS Acc.

My path to becoming a counsellor began with my own experience in therapy. At the time, I didn’t know how transformative it would be, but that experience planted the seed for what would become my true calling. After working in a different field that left me feeling unfulfilled, I took a brave step in 2021 to pursue my passion for helping others by training at Iron Mill College.

Today, I am proud to be a qualified practitioner, registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and accredited with the National Counselling and Psychotherapist Society (NCPS) and I’m here to support you on your own journey to healing.

My Approach to Therapy

I believe that every person’s journey is unique, which is why I use a client-centered approach to ensure our work together is tailored to your specific needs. With a foundation in person-centred therapy, I integrate techniques from gestalt, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), and mindfulness. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or other concerns, I provide a compassionate, non-judgmental space where you can feel safe to explore and grow.

I’m committed to working with empathy and honesty, helping you find clarity and achieve your mental health goals, at a pace that feels right for you.

A Little About Me

Outside of my practice, I’m passionate about living a balanced life. I love reading, cooking (and of course, eating!) vegan food, and spending time outdoors, whether that's walking in the beautiful Devon countryside with my dogs or enjoying my garden. I also love attending gigs and festivals with friends and family. In the winter, there’s nothing I enjoy more than curling up with a good book and a cup of tea.

Next Steps

Many people considering counselling have mixed feelings about starting - I know I did! . You might be unsure what it will feel like, worried about being judged, or unsure whether therapy is “the right” next step. That uncertainty is completely understandable — therapy is about exploring at your pace, not rushing into decisions.

I work with people who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, in emotional pain, or curious to understand themselves better. If this sounds like you, I can provide a safe space to get started.
