Counselling Services in Exeter
Hello, and welcome.
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure whether counselling is right for you, you’re not alone. Many people arrive here feeling hesitant, conflicted, or quietly minimising what they’re going through — and that’s okay.
You don’t need to be in crisis to reach out. You don’t need to know exactly what you want to talk about yet. This page is simply here to help you work out whether this might be a supportive place to begin.
At elwood counselling, I offer a warm, safe, and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings openly and without judgement. Therapy here is not about being “fixed” or pushed in a particular direction, but about being met with care, curiosity, and respect.
I work with people who are experiencing anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, or a sense of feeling stuck or disconnected. My approach is client-centred, meaning our work is shaped around you — your pace, your needs, and what feels most important to you. Together, we can work towards greater clarity, healing from emotional pain, and meaningful, lasting change.
This work often suits people who want a calm, supportive space to talk things through, who are feeling overwhelmed or emotionally low, or who are curious about understanding themselves better and exploring what might help them move forward. It tends to suit those who value a gentle, collaborative therapeutic approach rather than something highly structured or directive.
It may not be the best fit if you are looking for urgent or crisis support, or if you need a very directive or specialised intervention. In those situations, a different form of support may be more appropriate.
If you or someone else is at immediate risk of harm, please call 999 or go to your nearest A&E.

I am registered with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and accredited with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and hold an enhanced DBS certificate.
I offer compassionate one-to-one counselling in a welcoming environment, with sessions available both in person in Exeter and online.
I believe therapy should be as accessible as possible. Sessions are £60 per hour, with concessions available for students. I also offer a limited number of reduced-fee spaces at 50% of my standard rate — please get in touch to ask about availability. Home visits to residential settings, such as care homes, are available at £75 per hour.
Taking the first step can feel intimidating, especially if you’re unsure what to expect. If it would help, I offer a free consultation where you can ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels right — with no obligation to continue.
If you’d like to take that step, or simply want to find out more, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
